ANGLOМANIA UK & Russia: Business and culture beyond politics
Official reception and dinner London , Carlton Club
On the 12th of March 2015 Realia Group in collaboration with Maxxium
(«Courvoisier» brand), with the support from The London Magazine and the
Frolov Gallery, organised a successful business reception titled «UK &
Russia: Business and Culture Beyond Politics». The event took place at the
famous Carlton Cub in St. James.
The event consisted of three parts: welcome drinks, an official dinner
and an informal networking reception. The main theme of the evening was the
strengthening of ties between private companies and cultural institutions of
the UK and Russia in the
current politically turbulent times.
The event attracted prominent figures from the worlds of cul-ture and
business from both countries. The British side was represented by top
businessmen and women, directors of lead-ing companies, lords, MPs, members of
London Assembly and representatives of London ’s
largest museums. The Russian side was represented by prominent businessmen and
directors of state and private museums and galleries. The moderator of the
evening was the famous presenter of BBC Russian Desk Seva Novgorodtzev.
The welcome cocktails were served in the traditional setting of the
Morning room. Upon arrival the guests were offered a pri-vate tour of the
historical Carlton Club. Prior to the dinner the guests had an opportunity to
meet the other attendees and to try a classic Courvoisier champagne cocktail.
The dinner took place in the Churchill room, where the exquisite
interiors and portraits of Queen Elizabeth and Winston Churchill created a
suitably stately atmosphere.
The opening speech was made by Dr. Keith Hampson, member of the board of
directors of Realia Capital Management. Heex-plained to the guests the main
idea behind the event was to try to build ties between British and Russian
business and cultural communities during this period of political dissociation.
The welcome speech was continued by Mr. Stanley Johnson, prominent
British publicist and an ex Member of the European Parliament. Mr. Johnson
welcomed the guests on behalf of his son Boris Johnson, the mayor of London . With his
characteris-tic sense of humour he told the guests a few remarkable details
from the biography of his famous son.
Next was Sir Paul Judge, alderman of the City of London . He told the
guests about his positive experience of working with Russian businesses and
pointed out that that London
remains open for foreign investment.
Conon Burns MP, who is a member of the Culture, Education and Sports
Committee, has pointed out that cultural and education-al ties between the two
countries remain very strong and ex-pressed hope that collaboration in these
areas will continue.
The welcome speeches were concluded by Mr. Gleb Borukhov, investment
director of Realia Capital Management and Mr. Sergey Pechinin, business development
director of Realia Group.
The guests were pleasantly surprised by an exclusive tasting programme
by Courvoisier. Throughout theevening Ms. Rebecca Asseline, the brand
ambassador for Courvoisier, offered the guests samples of the best varieties of
the famous drink.
Fine cuisine from the Carlton Club’s chef and rounds of cognac were
complemented by interesting presentations of cross bor-der projects in art and
culture:
Mrs. Judith Nesbitt, director of international programmes at Tate told
the guests about important projects undertaken by Tate in collaboration with
the leading Russian museums.
Mr. Vasili Tseretelli director of Moscow
museum of modern art told the guests about museum’s activities and
international art projects.
Well known Moscow
architect Boris Bernaskoni presented his unique project Matrex, located in the
Innovation BusinessPark «Skolkovo». Mr. Bernaskoni shared his views on the
importance of internal concept design of a building in today’s world of
globalised architecture.
Mrs. Inna Bazhenova, the publisher of the
international The Art News Paper, concluded the presentations. She spoke about
her latest project – a cultural foundation «In Artibus» and revealed her plans
of organising exhibitions in collaboration with for-eign museums and
foundations.
The interesting programme and positive attitude of the participants
created a framework whereby the guests were are able to come together in a
friendly atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding. Moreover, this allowed
the guests to continue informal discussions after the dinner. The participants
had an excellent opportunity to make acquaintances and to share ide-as on
mutual business and cultural projects.
The eventful evening went surprisingly fast, but had a very pos-itive
resonance, for all guests. It gave a fresh stimulus to busi-ness and cultural
relationships between the two countries.
In the view of a high interest from both business and cultural
communities, Realia Group is planning to organise number of similar events in Moscow and London
in 2015.
